About the podcast

Real people. Real experiences. Conversations worth having.

Honest conversations about the experiences, decisions, relationships and turning points that shape who we become.

The idea behind the show

There's more to every story.

Life has a way of changing our perspective. Things we believed when we were younger don't always hold up, success doesn't necessarily bring the satisfaction we expected, and sometimes we find ourselves questioning decisions we've spent years defending.

Hosted by Ian France, The Human Side is a podcast about the experiences, relationships, struggles and turning points that shape our lives. Some conversations feature guests with extraordinary stories, while others are Ian sharing observations and lessons drawn from his own experiences. What connects them is a willingness to speak openly about the things that matter, including subjects we sometimes avoid.

There's no expectation that anyone has all the answers. The point is to listen, question, reflect and recognize that, regardless of our backgrounds or accomplishments, we often have more in common than we realize.

Why it exists

Some conversations stay with you.

Over the years, I've met people from very different walks of life. Some achieved tremendous success and still struggled to find peace, while others experienced devastating setbacks and found a way to build something meaningful afterward. What has stayed with me is rarely a job title or an accomplishment. It's the story behind the person and the experience that changed how they see the world.

Those conversations are the reason I wanted to create The Human Side. I wanted a place where people can speak freely, share what they've experienced, challenge an idea, laugh about life and admit when they've got something wrong, without feeling they need to perform for an audience.

Sometimes hearing another person's experience is enough to make us reconsider our own.

That's the kind of conversation I want to make room for, whether it happens with a guest or during a personal reflection.

What you'll hear

Conversations grounded in real life.

The Human Side explores personal responsibility, relationships, identity, change, recovery, disappointment, achievement and the decisions that influence our lives. Not every conversation will be comfortable, and people won't always agree. That's part of what makes an honest conversation worthwhile.

There will be guests whose experiences deserve to be heard, as well as episodes where I reflect on something I've lived through or an idea I've been reconsidering. Some discussions may challenge a long-held opinion. Others may simply remind you of someone you know, or something you've experienced yourself.

If an episode helps someone see a situation differently, feel less alone, or start an important conversation of their own, then it has served a worthwhile purpose.
